I got this a couple days ago and I’m finally saying thank you to @chicaquilts for the great #19igrc book swap package. I haven’t done swaps this year because of moving and I still don’t have my sewing stuff set up but I can definitely read! Thank you For the books and the cute notepad too. I hope I’ll@be able to sew again soon and use the fabrics.

The Clockmaker’s Daughter by Kate Morton. I grabbed this off the new release shelf at the library on impulse, not really knowing anything about it and not having read anything by Kate Morton, But is seen the Clockmakers Daughter on Instagram and goodreads. It was OK. I didn’t love it, I found it to be really slow in the middle, convoluted with tons of characters and timelines and mixed POV narration. The story was interesting enough that I wanted to finish to see how it all fit together but it wasn’t an easy read for me and I felt like I’ve been carrying this book with me to appointments and any time I spent waiting, reading every chance I got and wasn’t making much progress through the book. There are contemporary and historical fiction elements to this book and I guess a little bit of mystery but it’s the kind with the unreliable narrators who seems to be intentionally leaving out important details to make it seem more mysterious than it actually is. In the end I don’t feel like it the various timelines each wrapped up and it was sort of underwhelming. All that said there is some beautiful writing and there were lots of times I really loved a sentence or a thought and if I’d been reading on Kindle instead of a paper book, I would have highlighted passages for their writing. The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion. I enjoyed this book, Don is a quirky geneticist who attempts to apply science to finding a wife. Rosie is enigmatic and Don thinks her “unsuitable” when he applies his research criteria to her, but just can’t get her out of his mind. It’s a cute love story with a well-written neurodivergent protagonist, even though he doesn’t acknowledge or self-identify some his quirks are almost definitely autism spectrum behaviors. I enjoyed the Don and Rosie dynamic and they are both complex and likable characters. Normal People by Sally Rooney. Meh. I don’t get what all the acclaim is about with this book. The main characters are ok but their whole relationship is weird and sad and the supporting characters are nothing special. The dialogue without quotations drove me crazy and the timeline is stated at the top of each chapter but still manages to jump around within the chapters which was annoying and hard to follow. Hello! I can’t believe I haven’t posted a single thing here in months. I am alive, but life is a little bonkers right now. We moved across country but we haven’t sold our house in IL yet so we are all living with my mom which means no sewing space or time. Crossing fingers our house sells soon, we never expected it to be this long of a process. I have been reading a lot of books and we got library cards here the first week, but I’m lazy about posting reviews. But we do try to take advantage of the beautiful mountains in the backyard to hike and explore. I will try to at least update my reading here since I’ve hardly done anything crafty in most of 2019 because we’ve been getting our house ready and trying to sell since January. My kids start 4th grade in a week and a half without so much as a mom-made shirt for the first day of school. I was perusing some swap mosaics and I was bummed about missing out, it’s been a long time. I hope we can get settled into our own place soon so I can host the May the 4th swap again next year. 🤞

I’ve been MIA for a while, trying to get our house prepped to sell, so basically packing and cleaning and cleaning and cleaning. But we took a break this weekend and spent the day in Nerdvana aka @starwarscelebration — we had so much fun and got to see the Mandalorian Panel, tons of cool costumes and dozens of incredible droids (including my fave @r2kt 💕)
